A Golden Heart
Probably every wish for a mother is that her children will grow to be caring, loving, sharing, remorseful people. We do all we can to try to teach them this, even if our examples are not always acceptable. Judging others for being different, or looking a certain way is a down fall I have and don't want that to personify Sawyers judgement. I try my best to keep my opinions to myself around him and from what I have witnessed in him, I must be doing it well. I am so proud of the little man that he is becoming and hope with each growing day, he will not grow out of that, but grow more into it, and be a big person, continuing to have the love for people and the consideration for others that he already has.
Yesterday, Sawyer and I went shopping in the morning. We were in Jysk and Sawyer turned around, thinking it was me, ran right into a elderly lady with a cane. Holding onto her cane, he slowly looked up and saw it was not me. Instead of just running away from her, he looked up at her and said "oh sorry lady, I thought you were my mommy". I was awestruck that a 3 year old would first think of saying sorry before just running away. I smiled at the lady and said sorry to her also. She said "don't be sorry, what a nice little boy". My first thought was "yes he is".....and second thought was "ok I am not THAT old for him to mistake me for a 80 year old lady with a cane". hahahahahaha. The day was not over yet..........
We headed over for lunch to Mcdonalds. Sawyer followed the rules, which are eat then play. After we were done eating, we headed into the play area. (I can't eat my big mac in there cause it smells like 4 week old kid feet and wet dog, which could quite possibly just be the smell of "meat" from the burgers) but with that thought aside, he went to play. Minutes later returned to where I was sitting and asked if he could go ask that girl at the next table to play. I told him if her mom says yes then it was ok. The little girl was about 4ish, unfortunate looking, with big thick glasses, a little on the chubby side, and wearing a tutu. Sawyer approached their table and I out his mouth said..."hey you wanna play tag? Your it". They ran off together as if knowing each other a life time. They were on the play structure together and I heard him say...."hey i like your glasses and your dress". It was a proud moment, but also one of those moments where I grabbed for my phone to pretend to talk to someone so it would not appear I was laughing alone. God bless his heart!!! He gathered up all the little troops in the play area and administered a game of hide and seek and tag. I watched them play, not mattering to any of those kids if they knew each other, fat, skinny, far sighted or not, they could all play together. With all the new age and rage of kids entertainment these days, it is satisfying to know that what still ties us all together is a good old fashion, age old game of tag!!!!
