Jack and The Bean Stock

Have you ever really payed attention to this story....no i mean REALLY payed attention....

The other night while watching Max and Ruby with Sawyer, the story of Jack and the Bean stock was told. Sawyer found this story very intriguing. He asked lots of questions and as I told it to him a new meaning, new application, new hope, overwhelmed me.

Well you see Jack and his family had no food in their cupboards. They had only 3 coins. Jack's mother sent him to the market with these 3 coins and with his favorite toy to buy some food. With those 3 coins, Jack could purchase enough for one meal. When he arrived at the store, taking along his favorite stuff toy, he look around at all the fruits and vegetables that he could purchase for just ONE meal. The store clerk approached him with a offer. He said "hello Jack, i will take your 3 coins and you favorite toy in exchange for 3 magic beans" Jack was extremely apprehensive. He looked down in his hand at his 3 coins, his stuff FAVORITE toy and thought...Ummmmmm, well....and asked "are these really magic?" Store clerk replied "oh why yes, you have to trust me young Jack. These are magic, purchase them and you will see" So Jack being young and having more trust than us adults, accepted the store clerks offer. Off he went on his way home.

Excited to show his mom his purchase, he raced inside. She immediately cried out. "what? you waisted our only 3 coins on 3 silly magic beans?" She stomped out side and threw them into the garden. Well during the night, Jack heard a horrific noise. He jumped out of his bed and looked outside. In the garden grew a gigantic plant, a bean stock none the less. He headed out there to take a closer look. This stock was so high he could not see the end. He left his mom a note that said "mom, do not worry about me. I've gone to climb the magic bean stock. Be back in time for DINNER."

Jack climbed and climbed and climbed and climbed. When he reached past the clouds, he saw an amazing sight. Fruits, vegetables, all the staples of life.....and even the FAVORITE stuffed toy he traded in to get those magic beans.

See Jack trusted. Took a risk. With this, great treasures came to him and his family.

Now as I retold this story to Sawyer, I applied to our lives. Told him that if we trust in God and give him our 3 coins, He too will provide for us 3 magic beans. He does and he has!!! I made a promise to Sawyer that night. Promised him that he will know God's love.

Please pray for Sawyer and I as we look for a church to attend in the next year.

Psalm 13 5
But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord for he has been good to me.
